Artist Statement:

I paint as a means of ex-trospection; my inner life and dialogue are represented on canvas in order to catalog and describe to others & myself my own physical, emotional, and spiritual experiences. “Making” is an act of acceptance and healing. Through recycled or found pigments on canvas, cord, mesh, and other less-than-traditional materials, I paint portraits and abstractions—often within the same work. My subjects are the dual nature of the human experience: body/soul, material/immaterial, reasonable/reckless, simple/nuanced, happy/sorrowful, broken/beautiful, now/not yet.

Bio:

Tim was born in 1990 in Dallas, TX. His love for drawing and painting began at a young age, but soon became a lifeline in difficult moments, such as the death of his father at age 9, a Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis and temporary loss of vision at age 11, the death of a close friend at 16, and a consistently chaotic homelife. Creating and beholding art served as this beautiful flicker of light; a vehicle capable of carrying him toward hope in the midst of despair.

After graduating from Texas A&M University with a degree in Sociology, Tim spent 14 years working in pastoral ministry (while also running his own branding/consulting business to supplement his pastoral salary). Ultimately, this career choice was fueled by a desire to help others find community and hope in the midst of their own difficulties. Though there were bright spots over these years, experiences in particularly toxic, unhealthy, and chaotic environments left Tim searching for a change–and, once again, some hope in the midst of a season filled with despair.

Having taken a far too long hiatus from the practice of creating and beholding art, Tim began painting once again in the Spring of 2023 as a means of healing and self-reflection as he left ministry. His work was immediately represented by local galleries and regarded as vulnerable, innovative, and unapologetically personal. Tim’s paintings have been acquired and commissioned by private collectors, businesses, and houses of worship across the nation. He is always experimenting, always working on 5-6 projects at once, and continues to enjoy the process of creating as a spiritual and meditative practice of healing. He currently lives and works in the Dallas area with his incredible wife and three children.
